The Bull City Lady Bruins are open to high school-aged young ladies (grades 9–12) who:
Have moderate to significant experience in organized basketball (school or club)
Are coachable, eager to grow, and serious about getting better
Want to be part of a team that builds basketball IQ and character
There are a lot of club teams out there—but here’s why our players and families choose us: Smarter Basketball
We focus on pace of play, spacing, and advanced team concepts that translate to real-game success.
Skills Training: Work with Coach D. McDonald, a trusted position coach with over 20 years of experience developing young talent.
Academic & Basketball IQ Support: Every player receives a study binder, learning materials, and access to a team Google Classroom to build strategy and awareness.
Team Building that Matters: Lady Bruins participate in monthly off-the-court activities that strengthen team chemistry and confidence.
Empowerment Through I Am DOPE: Our players are part of the EmpowerU Academy—offering tailored workshops and conferences that help young women lead, grow, and prepare for life after high school.
Family First Culture: We limit unnecessary tournament travel and invite parents to connect with us through the Full Court Council.
Our teams typically participate in 2-3 tournaments per month, with each tournament featuring 2-3 games. Most tournaments are conveniently located within 30-45 minutes of Durham, to assist families in maintaining a balanced family life.
We understand how important it is to be present for your athlete. Starting this season, the Bruins will live stream our games for our family and friends.
Once a registered member of the team, players will receive an invitation to join us on the Team Snap mobile application. Team Snap is our primary method for communication. The app includes a team chat for real-time updates and a team calendar with the address and time for team events and games. Additionally the team manager sends weekly updates emails to keep families informed.
Team issued uniforms are included in the club fee. Uniforms include:
Team jersey and sorts
Shooting shirt
"Blackout" hoodie
"Blackout" warmup bottoms
Team athletic bag
We understand transportation can be a challenge, so we’ve organized a carpool system for game days to assist players in need. Please note that seating is limited, so early coordination is encouraged!
Fundraising is a vital part of how we make basketball accessible to as many young athletes as possible, which is a core part of our mission and values. While we strive to keep our club fees lower than other organizations, we rely on fundraising to cover essential costs like supplies, equipment, activities, and services that go beyond team uniforms and tournament entry fees.
Once our teams are formed, we’ll kick off fundraising for the 2025 season! These efforts will provide families with an opportunity to offset club fees while also ensuring that every player has the resources they need to succeed.
Additional fundraisers throughout the season will help fund:
Gameday snacks
Team-building activities to foster camaraderie
National Tournament travel in July
The end-of-season team banquet to celebrate our players’ hard work
Your involvement in fundraising helps us create a meaningful experience for every player while staying true to our commitment to accessibility. Together, we can make this an unforgettable season for the Bruins!
